A Lunar Event at Magnolia Supply

A blue moon and a fun event/sale at Magnolia Supply was the way to close out July in St. Augustine. With free cocktails, a braid bar by Philosophie Salon, live music, and some serious sales, Magnolia Supply was the place to be last night. Bri and Tara, the adorable owners of the shop, threw a rockin' event, and I'm glad I attended.

Bri West and Tara Ferreira
Mandy and Brittney from Philosophie Salon were tying up braids left and right. I was happy to see so many familiar faces and spent some time chatting with Sarah, Blogger at Vegan on the Run and Editor for St. Augustine Social. We both had braids put in by the lovely Mandy, but I'm sad to say mine didn't get much visibility as dinner was a Chipolte sofritas bowl on the couch. :/

Braid bar by Philosophie Salon
Aslyn and the Naysayers performed as guests milled around with Blue Moon beers in hand. There were stones scattered throughout the shop building on the energy from the full moon. I found a sweet pair of druzy earrings that look like peacock ore. Stay tuned for those in a future post.

Did you do anything special for the blue moon? Or is it just like any other moon to you?

Blue Moon in St. Augustine

Somehow my week got thrown off. I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday (on a Thursday).  :( Don't you hate that? Everything is going fine, it's not like I have some extravagant weekend plans either... just an odd feeling. Then I thought, maybe it's something in relation to the full moon we are having tomorrow night.

Do you have any big plans for tomorrow night's blue moon, or this weekend in general? I'm really looking forward to the Full Moon Sales on San Marco here in St. Augustine. I still haven't had a chance to stop by my friend Bri's shop Magnolia Supply and I'm excited to check it out.

I know I've been pretty quiet on the blog lately, but here's to changing that. I'm finishing up an online writing course over the next couple weeks and finally starting to settle into my new job. While my blogging slowed down over the last few months I established a solid yoga routine, worked on my writing, and was able to whip through some books I had on my summer reading list.

Sometimes you just need to take a break from blogging and refresh. Do you agree?

Fashion Friday: Floppy Hats in the Sun

Whether you're sitting on the beach, or under an umbrella eating fish tacos and sipping on a frozen cocktail a floppy hat is a definite must in the summer. It adds an air of sophistication to any outfit and protects your face from the scorching rays of the sun, double win!

From the Archives for the Surf Station's GND shop.
Here are a few of my current favorites how I would style them. The felt hats may be a little warm for the beach, but your can surely catch me strolling around the cobblestone streets of St. Augustine in them.
The "do not disturb" hat above made me laugh. I imagine sitting on the beach in my chair with the brim pulled low. Out of my price range though with a $440 price tag. (!)

Are you a hat person more so in the warmer months?
Other than SPF how do you protect yourself from the sun?

Fashion Friday: Wide Leg Pants

The cycle of pant leg diameter amuses me. I remember in middle school thinking how dorky my Mom's straight leg, ankle length, colored denim was. I thought she needed to wear flares, then bell bottoms, then wide legs. Now jumping forward to current day... I would rock her colored skinnies any day!

I really think the wide legs are about to come back for the mass market this year. I'm not talking Jnco Jeans here people, I mean high waisted, fitted until just above your thigh, followed by a major widening.

I'm on board with this trend and it's been on the runways for a while now. The professional look, as well as the beachy lower waisted ones will surely be added to my closet this year.

What do you think? Are you ready for wide legs to make their comeback?

Fashion Friday: Valentine's Day Dresses

With Valentine's Day less than 10 days away my mind is on where to make reservations and what to wear. I've already got the card and know what I'm getting for hubs, so the dress will be the hardest decision. Here's some pretty options for your Valentine's or (Galentine's) whether you are coupled up or going stag.
This first soft flowy pink dress is my favorite, and for under $30 I am really considering going with that one.

The burgundy one from Free People though is also gorgeous, the lace is so feminine and just looks like Valentine's day.

LBD's are always good... but then again a bright blue lacy number like the one from Free People is a flirty little thing. ;)

Will you be wearing pink, red, an LBD, or does the color
not really matter to you? Form fitting or loose, what do you think?

Fashion Friday: My Work Day Attire

For todays Fashion Friday post I wanted to post an outfit that you would catch me in if you saw me at work. I love dressing up and putting a little more effort into my hair in the evenings and on the weekends, but during the work week I'm often just in jeans, my Toms, and rocking a headband and bun. This kind of feels like a no makeup selfie or something... straight from work to the blog, here it is.

Earlier this week I met with Ashley of Sailor's Omen to discuss an upcoming photoshoot with Foxtale Photography for Fashion Friday. I met Ashley a couple years ago but we haven't spent much time together even though I know we would get along really well. We are both into fashion, being crafty (she has her own jewelry line) and of course crystals. She seems like someone I could really get along with.

In brainstorming the style we wanted to go for with the shoot we came up with a color palette, threw around a few ideas, then took a stroll around Marshalls to see if we could spike our creative stylings further. We found a few things that could work, talked about some other pieces we would like to get our hands on, and each left with a bar of soap. Yes, soap. Aromatherapy goes well with the ideas behind the "powers" of crystals and the Aromatherapy Herbal Soaps captured both of our attention as much as a royal blue top did. I discovered a new scent, Comfrey Root; the smell is similar to bergamot or some other earthy scent.

My diamond necklace from hubs, a watch, and my wedding rings are pretty much the only pieces of jewelry I wear between 8 and 5 during the week. Sometimes I'll throw in a bracelet, wear a statement necklace instead or switch my Toms out for boots, but my work look is pretty casual.

Fashion Friday: WIW in 9 Degrees

A few weeks ago I took a trip to Maryland to see my family. I kind of forgot that I missed them so much. It had been since last year at my wedding reception that I had seen them... too long.

I stayed with my sister, her boyfriend and their two dogs in their old schoolhouse turned home for a few days. The house is over 170 years old and really exudes the country home vibe with the exposed wood beams, stretching views of rolling hills, and two big ol' hairy dogs. :)

Here is what I wore the night it was a frigid 9 degrees. Note that what you do not see are the leggings that I wore every day under my jeans, the minimum of two additional shirts underneath, and my ski jacket I added over the top.

The sunsets were beautiful, very different from our (also gorgeous) Florida sunsets. I really enjoyed the change of scenery and checking out the area my sister is living in. Her dogs clearly love the area too. Here are a few shots I took while visiting Dickerson.

One of the white ones spat a piece of kibble right in her face when we ran out of food. It was hilarious, and Patty was totally stunned. A story her and I will surely remember forever.
Love you, Pat! Thanks for showing me around your town. :)

One more for the road - how sweet is this fluffy face?!

Fashion Friday: Feminizing a Men's Sweater

My new favorite thing to do when I don't know what to wear is to look through hubby's side of the closet. His sweaters are oversized on me and look great paired with a pair of leggings, riding boots, and a long necklace.

Just Me aghan, Jacksonville skyline

We took a trip up to Jacksonville a few weekends back so Dee could load up on spray paint at an art store up there. It's a new hobby he is exploring, in our garage, on canvas. I honestly didn't know he was so much of an artist, his initial sketch blew me away.

On our way home we went by this waterfront park and with the Jacksonville skyline in the background it was the perfect scene to catch my outfit. The water was so smooth, it hardly looked real.

Any other easy combos from their side you'd like to share?
I'd love to find a way to wear his flannels that doesn't look like pajamas.

Time to go get ready in my navy new years dress and tights, it's cold here in Florida tonight! What are you wearing for the New Years Eve festivities? Any big plans? We will be celebrating a wonderful new venture for my husband. More on that later though.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

Fashion Friday: Herringbone Under the Bridge.

I hope you enjoyed a love filled holiday with family and friends yesterday. As a blogger I find it difficult to turn off social media most days, but on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas I don’t feel so bad disconnecting from the rest of the world. And that’s the way it should be, right?
Back to the holidays… my tree will be up through NYE, as will my Christmas decorations. Keeping up with the jolliness of the rest of the year- here’s a festive holiday look.

Herring bone screams winter to me and this vest is the perfect final layer for this chilly look.

These were taken on a wooden trail under the bridge on Vilano Beach. I don’t think many people even realize this little trail is even there, definitely worth the time to seek out and take a walk down. You could make a little afternoon of just walking around Vilano: here, at the pier, at the beach, over the bridge… All worth a stroll.
