Guest Post: Ashleigh on Professional Wear

I loooove Audrey Hepburn and her classic style, so I was delighted when Ashleigh contacted me about a guest post. Everything from House of Fraser screams that era of style to me, perfect for a day at the office.

Dressing for a meeting or any kind of professional occasion can be really hard and I hate to say it but much harder if you’re a woman! Guys can’t go too wrong with a good suit and tie but us ladies have to tread that fine line between stylish and sensible. We want to be taken seriously of course but that doesn't mean we want to lose our personal style.

I was once told to not dress too brightly for interviews or meetings as this can really distract the person you’re there to meet or worse put them off you. Keep it to black, white or neutral most of the time but you can add a little color to keep it young and fun. Also be careful of your makeup, you want to look effortlessly chic and bright so stay away from colored eye shadows and if you like lippy make it nude or light pink.

Now for your outfit. As I said before it can be hard for women but the best advice I can give you is to judge it by your own standards. Personally I like to feel confident and be on just the right side of sexy. Something like these dresses from Alexon are perfect, they are still feminine and show you as a woman (no burying your lovely figure) but they don’t scream girls night out either. With a dress always make sure it has a high enough neckline so that no cleavage is on show and it comes just below your knees; think Audrey Hepburn chic and you can’t go far wrong.

Don’t have too much bare skin on show either so opt for a dress with sleeves or a jacket but this doesn’t have to be boring. Make your dress simple and your jacket can be more of a statement. It says you’re bold and upfront but know how you should behave!

You can keep your look young (after all we’re not trying to turn you into your mother) by adding a few accessories. Don’t go nuts or anything but earrings and a bracelet/watch is fine. Nothing with lots of bells and whistles though we don’t want them to hear you coming!

Finally it’s all about confidence and how you wear it ladies. Don’t let the outfit wear you. You need to show that you’re a woman that means business and that fact that you have amazing style is just a bonus.

Guest Post: Sheer Genius

Today I have a guest post for you from StyleFinder with your guide to getting the sheer trend right. Be sure to tell me your thoughts on sheer fashions in the comments!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From runway to red carpet, the trend for sheer is continuing strong this spring in a range of variations, from sheer panels to all out sheer looks.

Though not a trend for the faint at heart, when done right, sheer can look elegant, demure and flattering. It's also a great way to take your wardrobe into Spring for those months when it's not quite warm enough to bare too much skin.

Below I've put together our top 6 tips on how to make sheer work for you – proving that you don't have to be a size 0 to rock the trend.

1. Subtle is Sexy

When it comes to sheer, it's definitely a case of less is more. Check out Taylor Swift's elegant Elie Saab number at this year's Brit awards versus Kim Kardashian's in-your-face Dolce and Gabbana blouse which looks much to tight and just outright tacky.

Celebs getting it Right….and getting it Wrong

2. Know What Works for YOU

When used cleverly, sheer can both highlight your assets and disguise any area's you want to cover up.  Only Hearts' sheer paneled Loulou Bodysuit ($135) emphasizes the waist and can be teamed with a full length skirt if your legs are an area you want to cover up.

3.  Do It By Day

Sheer doesn't have to be a nighttime look. Try a subtly sheer sweater for a look that oozes understated sexy. Team Line's open knit Clockwork Sweater ($208) with denims by day or dress it up to take it into the evening.

4. Sexy and Sweet

Lace is the perfect combination of sexy and sweet. Only HeartsEvelyn Lined Shift Dress ($129) is ladylike but still sexy, and is perfect for anyone who wants to cover up their arms.

5. Dress it Down

Team a sexy sheer black blouse with jeans for a look that's not too over the top. For a versatile, day-to-night look team with a cami and blazer to make your outfit utterly office appropriate. Try these Invisible skinnies from Eugene Is My Middle Name for an evening time look that's not to over the top, and their ombre effect mirrors the sheer trend perfectly.

6. Be Brave

If you've got it, flaunt it! For those who aren't afraid to take the plunge, the from Only Hearts Loulou chemise ($139) mixes sporty and sexy and elements to avoid the sheer trend looking too trashy.

Guest Post: Amy of Leopard and Lillies

I am incredibly honored to introduce Amy of Leopard and Lillies today! I found Amy's blog a few months ago and have been absolutely addicted to it ever since. When I emailed her to see if she would be interested in doing a guest post here, I really was not sure I would even get a response. Needless to say I was extremely happy to hear she was into the idea. I'm pretty sure I jumped up and danced a bit (at work) when I got her email.
Amy's style and apparent bag obsession is right up my alley. She is a native Floridian and UF graduate, now living in Dubai with her husband and adorable dog Harley. Amy's blog is truly an inspiration to me, and one which I look to for guidance. GO GATORS! ;)

Hi Everyone! Meaghan asked me to pop over today and discuss my love of high heels. While most women love (and hate) high heels, as someone who is 5’11” (180 cm), it took me a number of years to learn to really love high heels.
Growing up as a tall (and lanky) gal, I was very self-conscious on my height and always tended to wear flats. It was only after moving to New York did I start to wear heels on a regular basis. My thought process was if I’m already 5”11” what are a few more inches when wearing heels. Nowadays I love heels and couldn’t imagine not wearing such beautiful shoes, but it took me a number of years to adjust.
Am I alone or did other tall girls only start developing their love of heels in their later years?
Thanks Meaghan for letting me take over your blog for today. Feel free to stop over and check out my blog Leopard & Lillies.

Much love from the sandbox, Amy
