Over 12 hours since I woke up, I’m sitting home on the couch with my dogs, my love and sore palms/fingers. We went zip lining today at Forever Florida’s Eco Safari for Dee’s Birthday. It was an early morning being Saint Cloud is 3 hours from St. Augustine, we had to get out the door by 6 AM to be there in time. After stopping for gas and some yummy Panera we were on the way, cinnamon crunch bagel and caramel latte in hand.
I hadn’t been in so long and I forgot how good this place was!
Once we got there and were all geared up in our harnesses it was time to climb 8 stories of steps and begin the adventure.
The first zip was nerve racking, being the safety freak I am,I constantly was checking if my harness was tight enough. I then continued to check it to see if it was getting looser as the day went on. It wasn’t, it was fine and so was I. With shaky knees I stepped up onto the step and was assisted by one of our 2 “zip crew” guys to hook me on to the steel cables. A few calls were yelled across to the other side and I was told to sit down, hold on and shut up. No, not really but that would’ve been funny. You do “sit down” though and hold on to the two cords that connect you to the cable, then you are pushed off the edge and soar through the air. Of course on the first zip, of 6 in that particular course, I didn’t make it all the way across so the other zip crew guy had to come out and “save me.” Dee didn’tmake it either, of course we were the only ones in our group of 6 that this happened to. The rest of the zips on this course had a little more of an incline and we were able to make it all the way though.

Typical surfer bro move! J/k he knows I love him. ;)
After finishing up the first section we rode on their zip line roller coaster which is the only one in the United States and the second in the whole world! Basically, it was awesome. The drops were a little weird because you had a free fall feeling for a few seconds, and then it yanked your whole body when you leveled out again.
Next was the superman, a race against the person next to you to travel 200 feet the fastest. Dee won, as a matter of fact all of the guys one, apparently it was weight related...yup definitely weight related. ;)
At this point it was around 12:30 and we were put on a hold because the wind was picking up to 20 mph gusts. Not so good for soaring through the air on cables. So we headed back on this vehicle, truck, thing to get some lunch.
Dee had a grass fed Angus burger while I chowed down on a veggie burger. Sadly the weather did not cooperate and we were given rain checks to come back another time. We missed a few of the experiences, the panther pounce and a cycling zip line, both of which we will get to try next time.
I think Dee was sad it was over.
Cheese!
Dee making friends with the "employees."
If you are ever in Orlando and looking for something to do other then the typical amusement parks, I highly recommend you check out Forever Florida and the many things they have to offer. They've got a lot more then just zip lining. You can go horse back riding, overnight camping, there is a ropes course, a paintball area, nature tours and more. We saw a family of 4 deer, a bunch of cattle, rescued horses, a llama, peacocks, alligators and there were even hogs we didn't get to see.
We had a great time and can't wait to go back and use our rain checks! Thank you Forever Florida for offering this unique experience.
