So, I decided to try laser hair removal on Saturday. YEEEEEEEOUCH! I was NOT expecting that much pain at all! It was seriously worse than either of my tattoo's, which are on the top of my foot and the back of my right hip (the "most painful spots" apparently).
The smell of burnt hair is a little odd too, a bit like when you use a stinky tingle lotion in a tanning bed. Not to say that it was burning at all.
Let me give you a run through of how the procedure went. I was probably a bit of a chicken b/c I wasn't expecting pain... if I went in expecting it I don't think I would have started to tear up so bad. And I do plan to do it again in 8 weeks and will let you know if the second time goes any better.
I went in with a combo appointment, underarm and bikini. You go in fully shaved so the laser can be attracted to the hair follicle under your skin. Needless to say the bikini did NOT happen that day. "Baby steps" here people as my Laser Technician was saying. We did a little consult to see what I was looking for and I laid down, held up my arm, and she started to zap. Man-that first one about made me pee my pants. Quick though, just a loud snap; she was describing the pain as similar to the snap of a rubber band against your skin. I have to say this was a pretty good description, just imagine that rubber band pulled way way tight. Anyway, she zapped about 5-10 times on each underarm. The head of the machine was probably 1 1/2"-2" wide and zaps a bunch of hair at the same time.
So yes, I think it was painful and hurt, but at the same time if this works and I don't have to worry about shaving my underarms anymore- I will be SO happy. It's definitely already stunted the growth, I haven't shaved there since Saturday (5 days later). Now I'm waiting for the hair to start to "fall out" as the laser tech said, and will then wait until December to go back and zap away again. I think I'll start the bikini treatments in January to prep for the 2012 bikini season...
Everyone I've spoke to highly recommends having this done, and it is often described as an investment. So I'm making mine, have you had laser hair removal? Or are you planning to anytime in the near future? I'd love to hear about your experiences. :)

Really? No pain? Lucky you, you must have very high pain tolerance. Do you have any tattoos to compare the level of pain to?
